7 Things to do when stuck in the CNG Queue

Are you from Pakistan? If yes, then this blog is for you. One day consists of 24 hours, 24 hours consists of 60 minutes and if you are from Pakistan you have the honor to spend 1 hour daily at a CNG. They say time is money so why not utilize this time and use it well. I wrote this blog while I was waiting in a CNG queue. It’s a small list of things which I think we all can do easily while waiting in a CNG queue:

CNG-LINES

1) Count your blessings: We spend do much of our time in complaining on all the things that are not right in our lives but we rarely take out some time to appreciate the beauty around us. Just written a list few days back Count your blessings not worries.

2) Read / Listen a book: Reading is growing… If you are not reading you are not growing. Keep a book with you all the time and do read it when you get some extra time. Audio books are easily available in mp3 format. Download your favorite books and listen when stuck in a CNG queue.

3) Eat something: Buy something you love and enjoy it bite by bite. This will surely uplift your mood. Try it, it works all the time.

10 tips for CV writing that will get you Hired

10TIPS~11)
Objective

Write clear and short objective. Don’t write an encyclopedia of your achievements. Just give 2-3 lines on how you are planning to add value to the company or how excited you are to grow with the company.

2) Be relevant

If you are applying for marketing job for GOD sake don’t list 3 pages of your designing experience and then half a page of your marketing expertise. Time is money and in business if you are not relevant you will be kicked out right from the door.

3) Double check your spellings

First impression is the last impression. In school they deduct your marks if your spelling is wrong but in business they drop your CV. Make sure spelling feature is enabled in your Word pressing program.

4) Keep it short

Don’t overdo your CV. Keep it short. No need to write paragraphs of your expertise just lists it down in bullet points. That will be enough.

It’s not my Job

Going extra mileI was about to enter my office when I saw a street light switched on. I approached the guard who was sitting right next to the pole and asked “Isn’t that light supposed to be turned off. It’s 8am in the morning.” I got the classic reply “It’s not my job!!!” Wooohhh really are you kidding me. We are too busy to save some electricity, too busy to add some value and too busy to play your part for this beautiful world.

This incident happened last week and from that day onwards I made a routine to switch off light before entering office. But I am glad that since last 2 days street lights are now off before I arrive at my office. I suppose that statement really hit hard on that guard. Poor him (:

I believe that in personal and in professional Life going an extra mile is always a plus point. It’s not about “It’s not my job” it’s about will it benefit my company, society or people around me. There are certain things that I do which are beyond my job scope but I do them because I know my company will benefit from it. For example if it’s raining in Karachi I dive into my pc to run a scroll on our website that deliveries might be affected. Not because it’s my job just to provide ease to our customers.

Count Your Blessings Not Worries

Quran says: “If you give thanks, I will give you more, but if you are thankless, verily! My Punishment is indeed severe.” [Surah Ibrahim 14:7]

Have you ever thought that despite of billion other people why you are born? It’s because you can do something that billion others can’t.

When feeling down, start counting your blessings. Here is a list I made this morning; check and write your own:

1) I am alive – I woke up this morning and place my hand on my heart? Felt something? That’s called Purpose. You are alive for a reason. Don’t ever give up.

2) I am healthy – Can move all the body parts which mean I am blessed with full health alhumdulilaah for one more day.

3) Family – These are people who care for me unconditionally. They are with me, totally a blessing alhumdulilaah.

When Passion dies – What next?

In Life you will be given opportunity to work on your carrier, to work for a company or to work towards your calling. Some are born genius; some explore their genius while rest die with their song buried in their hearts.

Simon Sinek worked his heart out in a 9-5 job. But then one day he was working late. No one was at office. Light went out so he got some time to think. He looked around and saw no one. He was working like hell with his sweat and blood. He realized the fact those long hours he was investing was helping his company but he was not growing anymore.

Simon in his TED talk explained that there are two ways in which you can do things – First we do things in which you are good at and second we do things which we really Love to do. They come straight from our heart.

But sometimes in Life you realize that you are doing something which you loved to do but now your Passion died. You no longer feel the way you used to. You are doing things because you are asked to do or you are paid to do. Now what??

Follow your Heart

Details are Mark of Excellence

details are mark of excellenceI was on my way back from work to home when I received a call from our developer and she informed that there is some issue in our website and Customers can’t place orders right now. I said okay let me get some food in my stomach as I only ate a boiled egg since morning. To my surprise I came to know that issue was not recent. It has been 24 hours since we haven’t receive any order or new registrations on the website. It’s the little details that are most important. Little things make big things happen.

To many people this is just a simple incident of day to day work but to us this was a learning experience. As they say Life well lived is about learning, forgetting and re-learning. In today’s fast phase world we all are eager to learn new things but problem is that we forget to improve our daily routine work. We are working like robots in a factory. We work, work and work. We only think when things get messy. Like in our case we start noticing things were about to get out of hands.

What is your brand’s Unique Selling Proposition?

ImageI was really in a hurry because thoughts were flooding in my mind and I wanted to jot them down before I lost any of it. But when I started to write I felt a bit more comfortable with grip of my pen. First I thought it was just an assumption but then I checked the brand name and yes to my surprise it was not my usual pen.

As a writer I use different kinds of pen to jot down my thoughts but I felt uniqueness with this particular pen. This reminded me of a term used by Catherine Kaputa in her best seller “You Are a Brand” Unique Selling Proposition (USP); a term that made understood by many famous brands:

  • Apple is unique because their USP is their impeccable design.
  • Zappos is different because their USP is their Wowness in Customer Service.
  • Google is different because their USP is their simplicity in whatever they do.
  • Starbucks is different because their USP is their environment.

Don’t be Arrogant

In Business and in family Life Arrogance is the deadliest habit of all. People will connect to you only when you are friendly towards them. Yes people might ask for help just because you have more connections or you have more money but true relationships are built upon nature of humanbeing.

10 ways to control your Anger

Other day my very good friend had this Anger management issue so I thought why not share my learning from different people on how they control their Anger.

Anger is a normal and natural human feeling, especially nowadays as life is really fast and we have a huge amount of information to accumulate (in comparison with our previous generations). Anger can be quick and long, lasting for years in form of bitterness, vengeance or hate. Anger can lead to health issues like depression, high blood pressure, hearth diseases, stresses and obesity. If you are anger- express it. If you feel discomfort from these “negative splashes”- then try some techniques on how to manage your emotional anger:

1. Take a deep and continuous breath. Close your eyes and start breathing slowly. Inhale and Exhale atleast 25 times.

2. Have a walk. Look at high sky. Continue to breathe deep and easily. Appreciate the beauty around you.

3. Do some physical exercises. When you are angry- your body is very tensed and tough. If you stretch your muscles it will relax your body, as you will spill out all your negative energy into action. Your brains will get more oxygen and it assists to clear your thoughts.

4. Write down all your thoughts. Write down that you are mad and why. Avoid being rational, logical or laconic. Write on paper all you are feeling this moment. Try to write all in details. The function of this technique is to shift all your anger out of your head on paper.

Things won’t change if you don’t dream enough

Now days when I ask people how are you doing? I often get the same reply with a dull tone “Yes, we are good”. But deep down inside I can really feel that they are not living their lives fully. They are struggling for Life without loving what they do. They have dreams but fail to achieve them. On your deathbed you won’t regret the things you did; you will only regret the chances you missed.

One thing I learned from Life is we won’t get what we dream for rather what we deserve. The thing about Life is it gives you what you ask for. Do dream wisely and Visualize your goals daily.

Real Greatness

Real greatness is not about wealth, real greatness comes from achievement. If you really want to feel great from inside; start achieving your goals and your Life will be worth living.

Set goals daily and try to achieve them. Even if you don’t achieve them you will gain experience that will help you to try again.
