Start a YouTube video at a certain timestamp

24 Aug

Now days its considered time wasting to watch whole videos when you have only 10-15mins of spare time. Here a thing which Faisal Qureshi shared with me. Its called “Timestamp sharing”. You share YouTube video with a particular timestamp and user will only view that part of the video.

YouTube video starting from certain timestamp

How to share particular timestamp video

Complete video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_537o8J-6Y

Particular timestamp video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_537o8J-6Y#t=6m08s

Notice the “#t=6m08s” on the end of the url? That link will take you 6 minutes and 8 seconds into that video. Linking to a particular minute and second can be really helpful.

How to Start an embedded YouTube video at a certain timestamp

To do it on an embedded video, use the “start” parameter. Note that start takes seconds as a parameter, not minutes and seconds. For example, to start an embedded video 31 minutes and 8 seconds into a video, 31*60+8 = 1868 seconds, so you would use this code:

Here is the YouTube sharing link

< iframe src=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/-_537o8J-6Y&start=500″ frameborder=”0″ width=”560″ height=”315″>< /iframe>

Now if you want to embed a particular timestamp into your website just add the highlighted code in your link

< iframe src=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/-_537o8J-6Y&start=500” frameborder=”0″ width=”560″ height=”315″>< /iframe>

Hope this will help you to save your time (: Happy sharing!!!!
